Season 2, Ep. 3 – Social Media & Minors: META’s Protections for Parents & Children

META’s Head of Global Safety, Antigone Davis, pulls back the curtain on how META is combating cyber-trafficking targeting minors. Discover how their Artificial Intelligence (AI) works tirelessly behind the scenes to detect and address policy-violating content.

One significant measure taken by META is the default privacy setting for minors’ Instagram accounts, providing a powerful shield against unwanted message requests from potential online traffickers. This is just one example of their comprehensive online safety measures designed to protect young individuals on popular platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

About Antigone Davis

Antigone Davis, META’s Head of Global Safety, focuses her advocacy on safeguarding children’s safety in cyberspace. Prior to working in the social media industry, she led Facebook’s Safety Advisory Board’s efforts to address a number of global issues, including child exploitation, revenge porn, suicide, and cyberbullying.

Additionally, she speaks and gives appearances in the media where she offers advice to parents on issues relating to children’s screen time and the implementation of parental controls. She has further held a position on the WePROTECT International Advisory Board, a coalition of “governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations” that works to stop child sexual exploitation and abuse online.
